The process involves distressing an 8x8 clayboard with various tools, applying ink, then using transfer paper or free drawing to leave an image. The student will then use a razor blade, steel wool, qtip or other scraping tool to remove the ink from areas on the board adding ink back in as needed. The student will learn to identify a range of values and create a nuanced black, grey and white etching. The student will go home with the supplies to immediately hang their painting. Materials supplied by student: No materials required. Optional scraping tools (clay implements, etc.) if desired. Materials supplied by instructor: Steel brushes, transfer paper, razor blades, steel wool, qtips, value charts, photocopies of animals, birds or sealife. Materials provided: 8x8 Clayboard per student, blocks to set the panel off from the wall, hanging materials.
