Happy New Year!

As promised, this is one of the first of what we hope will be a series of notes from our members and Board Members letting you know what they've been up to lately. I hope you'll find these give you as many ideas for projects and ways to organize your art space as they have us!

JoAnn Ballantyne

My Dungeon Studio

Welcome to my Dungeon Studio, (it is on the bottom 3rd level in our home). This is my escape room to creativity. A space to design fabric art, listen to music, write, paint, craft or read. You are visiting on a good day, I just finished organizing, again!
Entering the room from the hall and my coffee bar, you see my design door where fabric art lives while I audition colors and ideas. Next, the paint storage area housing anything and everything dealing with paints! My sitting area with television in armoire, loveseat for relaxing, Adele (my canine art assistant) on her bed and a table for creating.  A corner chair for sitting to look up ideas and door to a small deck, nice in dry times.
There are two projects on the mannequin ready to go, next to my favorite area, my large desk. Here is where I paint, do collage, sew, write, bird watch, take photos and totally relax in enjoyment! The large window lets in great light and I made a bird feeding and bathing spot outside to encourage visitors.
To the left of my desk is my "wall of many colors" thread wall. This is maybe a third of what I own, as many of you know, I do much designing with threads! Several years ago, I thought what an "art statement" this would make & be handy to find a needed color!

Currently I'm working on a mosaic hummingbird on a glass brick, adding little lights inside when done. I enjoy putting pieces of glass or fabric together, forming an interesting grouping, but I "hate" doing jig saw puzzles!!

Thank you for visiting. Hope to "see" everyone again soon!
Warmly, JoAnn Ballantyne

Do you have a project or projects you've been working on? Where do you house and work on your art projects? Even if it's a very small area it could very well be helpful to others who are wondering how to organize their small art space.  Send us a picture of your art project(s) and/or space, and what success or challenges you've encountered. We have lots of artists here who would be happy to lend some guidance.

Send your photos and description to Marilyn Wolverton at artiststudio@asaart.net.  We'd love to see them!

Next week we'll be sharing an update from Arlon Gilliland so keep an eye out for it.
