ASA Board News

Even in a pandemic the work of the Artists’ Studio Association must continue.  Although some of our usual programs have slowed and changed, your board continues to meet at regular intervals to manage the operations, take on needed projects and coordinate the gallery classroom, which remains open to the public.

Due to the pandemic we have been unable to hold a membership meeting and elect board members whose terms have ended.  Also, there have been recent resignations among board members.  To continue the work of the ASA, the board has remained flexible by taking on combined roles, meeting virtually, and for those awaiting election continuing their term of service!

The Board is exploring methods of electronic voting for Board elections and other matters that require membership vote.  Please stay tuned.  In the meantime, we could use your help.

The ASA Board is actively recruiting for a new board member.  We are in need of an individual who has interest in either the Secretary or Treasurer role.  During this interim period the board position would be confirmed by the current board.  Later, you would have the option to run for membership election.  Also know that officer roles may change during your tenure as a board member.   If you have thought about getting more involved in the operations of ASA, please consider volunteering.   If you have questions about being an ASA Board member, please contact one of the current board members listed below:

We Need a Volunteer Gallery Coordinator!

Christina Moore who has been acting as the ASA Gallery Coordinator will be stepping down effective March 1st. Christina has done a tremendous job, and lucky for ASA she will continue on as an ASA Board member involved in projects.

The Gallery Coordinator oversees the ASA Beachstone Gallery.  The Coordinator manages and participates in the quarterly display changes, maintains the visual image of the gallery, communicates with members about their artwork and procedures for display, provides communication about upcoming display changes, oversees the Artist of the Month Program, and maintains the gallery records.  The position also updates the Gallery Facebook and Instagram feeds.

Please note that during the pandemic we have taken extra safety precautions during display changes. During display change which happen once a quarter, the time commitment is about 15 - 20 hours in a week.  Otherwise, the commitment is approximately 2 to 4 hours per week.  The Gallery Coordinator has traditionally attended ASA Board meetings to report on gallery operations.

It is a rewarding experience, a lot of fun and a great opportunity to get to know more ASA members.  This is an independent role and has discretion to manage the gallery operations for the benefit of the members.  The Board welcomes any volunteers and will look especially for people who have a great eye for visual display and strong organizational skills.   Please help keep the ASA Gallery open by volunteering today!

Please submit your interest and questions to Stephanie Reitmajer (our temporary coordinator) at gallerycoordinator@asaart.net

Art on the Edge Studio Tour

The annual studio tour is scheduled this year for May 21-23 (Friday - Sunday).  The ASA has participated in past tours by providing artist demonstrations.  Participating artists may also sell their work.  This event was very successful in 2019.

For the safety of the artists and the public, we will limit the number of artists and the number of people allowed in the gallery classroom at any one time.  We also need a volunteer to help coordinate the event.   Please send your interest in either participating as a demonstrating artist or coordination to Marilyn Wolverton at secretary@asaart.net.
