It’s been a while since I’ve gone over the payment procedure when work is sold from Beachstone Gallery and I imagine there are newer members who may not be familiar with it.
Since Beachstone does not have a full time concierge, any sales made there are handled through the CoOp Gallery. The CoOp takes a 20% commission for this service. Their bookkeeper sends the ASA Treasurer a check and list of the sales made. During summer and fall, the Treasurer gets a check weekly. During the winter and spring, the checks are produced biweekly.
On this end, I collect all the paperwork from ASA and the Post Office on Sunday and try to get the ledger to the accountant Monday or Tuesday so she can get checks out. How soon you get your check is going to depend on three things:
1. When your sale is made in reference to when PAA writes its check (ie. If your sale is made on Monday and she does the checks on Tuesday, I would have your information in by the following Monday and you would be paid about 10 days after the sale. However, if your sale were made the day after she writes the checks, it would be another 1-2 weeks before she got to it, depending on the time of year, and it would be 2 1/2-3 1/2 weeks after the sale before you got your check.)
2. How soon I get the check after it’s sent to ASA
3. How quickly I do the ledger and get it to the accountant
There is an additional component regarding the sale of cards. In the past, many artists have asked that they not be paid immediately for single card sales so that they don’t have to deal with $3 and $4 checks. So, although I submit the card sales weekly along with the other sales, our accountant holds them and sends out card payments monthly.
