About this event

Discover the freedom of combining paint, paper and personal reflection. In this class you'll learn how to overcome the fear of the blank page and create a judgment free visual diary. We will explore creative ways to weave writing, poetry, and imagery together. We will learn how to layer acrylics, watercolor and ephemera to build rich backgrounds onto our journal pages. Art journaling can be used as a therapeutic outlet for mindfulness and self care. No prior drawing or painting experience is required.

Student experience

Beginners welcome, no experience necessary.

Materials provided by student

- An unlined art journal or mixed media sketchbook
- Scissors
- Aleens or Elmers glue
- At least 3 colors of acrylic paint (more is good)
- Watercolor
- Micron pen or fine tip sharpie (black and white)
- Students are encouraged but not required to bring any visual references that may appeal to them such as photos, words or magazines with images

Materials provided by instructor

- Collage ephemera
- Magazines
- Stencils
- Pens
- Loads of inspiration

Registration cancellations will be accepted

Cancellation Policy:

If a student cancels or withdraws from a class:

1) At least one week before a class begins, students will receive their class fee less a $5 cancellation fee to compensate ASA for costs AND less any amount required by the instructor.

2) Less than one week before a class begins, no refund of registration and materials fees will be made.

Missing Classes: If one or more classes in a series are missed due to student absence no refund will be made. Make up sessions may or may not be offered at the discretion of individual instructors.

Cancelled Classes: ASA will make every effort to conduct classes as scheduled. If a class is cancelled by ASA, students may receive a credit for the full amount they paid or receive a credit to be used for another ASA class. ASA will make every effort to notify students of class cancellations at least one week in advance.

Inclement Weather: ASA will attempt to remain open during inclement weather. If necessity requires, ASA will cancel classes and studio activities whenever local school closures occur.
