Studio Notes: March 2026

March Featured Artist:
Nancy McEwen
Nancy McEwen consistently delights artists and views alike with her moody, action-packed ocean paintings. Originally taught by Byron Pickering, Nancy works to capture the untamable seas. The waves and patterns call to Nancy, who built a home with her husband thirty years ago in Lincoln City.

Nancy is inspired by God‘s creation. “My goal is to paint until the good Lord calls me home,“ she explained. “And tell then, I will continue to paint His magnificent creation.“

I’m enjoying these spring sun breaks on the coast — and ASA feels just as bright.

We now have a full board of fourteen (14) members: eight (8) executives and six (6) chair people. I’m especially happy to welcome Christina Villarreal as our new secretary. The board is grateful to retire our “rotating minute-taker” system!

The Pacific Artists' Gallery (in front) also has a new board, led by Diane Devens. I look forward to our shared ideas.

Jen Henry is stepping into the Treasurer role as Bonnie Holubetz transitions out, all while doing year end closing of the books, a busy time of year for that change, and we appreciate them both.

Olivia Longley and Leslie Olesen — “Team Gallery” — are excited about the April re-hang, and Deb Wolf has jumped right in with the Featured Artist wall line up for the year.

Outside, our front landscaping is close to getting a refresh. We’d love volunteers to freshen the side garden.

We’ll soon be interviewing mural artists to add ASA advertisement visibility on our building.

Don’t forget that Kathy Cope is gathering treasures for the April 17–19 Annual Garage Sale (see details below.)

Lincoln City Art Supply and Paint Your Own Pottery is moving to the Outlet Stores. The owners shared with me they plan to carry watercolor, acrylic and oil paints, plus brushes, canvas and papers. They will be willing to order. Be sure to go by and tell them “ASA sent you”, let’s hope for a discount to soon follow!

2026 is off to a strong start. Thank you for being part of it.

Housekeeping items: Pick up your artwork that was previously displayed last quarter. Space is limited in the utility room, and the potential for damage increases. Art unclaimed before the next hanging will become donated to the ASA roof fund. Please reach out to the gallery coordinators for any questions or concerns.

Gentle reminder: Please be respectful of our space. Put away hair dryers, supplies, and dispose of scrap materials.  Scissors were found on the kitchen floor and a hair dryer was left plugged in on the kitchen counter next to the sink. This is a potential hazard.

April 17-19: Raise the Roof Garage Sale
In April, ASA will be having our third annual Raise the Roof Garage Sale in conjunction with the city-wide garage sale. Proceeds going toward a new roof.

Volunteers Needed
One of the things that made the garage sale go so smoothly last year was the number of people who volunteered to help. We need people for the following jobs:
  • Set-up crew (Thursday afternoon at 4:00)
  • Cashiers
  • Customer services (talking to people about the items available)
  •  Organizing and cleaning tables as needed
  •  Take down and clean up on Sunday
Donating Items
If you have an item you would like to donate, consider whether it might be appropriate for our garage sale. We’ll take just about anything that is in decent condition. No clothing. Bring items to the studio and put them on the counter of the ramp room. If you place something on the counter in the ramp room and leave it unlabeled, it will likely be taken away and packed up for the sale. If you must leave something there, be sure and put your name on it so that it doesn’t end up getting sold! Please advise Kathy Cope about the addition so she can pick the items up and keep the area uncluttered.

Note Regarding Beads
Last year we received a large donation of beads. We sold or donated many, but we still have a lot of beads left. Kathy Cope would like to invite anyone interested in purchasing beads before the garage sale to come to my house and see what’s available. Text me if you’re interested (Kathy Cope).
