- May 15-17 - Painting with Mood: Making Your Watercolors Personal & Expressive: Painters learn a repeatable process for making their own creative decisions, choosing compositions, values, and colors that express their intended mood. Participants will bring their own reference photos and develop their unique voice.
- May 22 - Upcycled Garden Flowers: Join Jen Henry Morris for a fun, hands-on class where you'll learn how to transform everyday items into beautiful, whimsical garden flowers. This class will guide you through the process of selecting materials, assembling your flower, and adding personalized touches. All skill levels are welcome.
- May 23 - Mixed Media Art and Tea by the Sea: In this class we will paint loose florals and teacups using watercolor. Once dry we will decorate and outline our florals and cups with pens. We will add fine details by using markers to create patterns, doodles, and marks. Stamps and stencils can also be used. Anything goes, we will just play.

| May Featured Artist: Rosemary Wood-Hemm
| Rosemary Wood-Hmm is a British-born mosaic artist and photographer. She moved to the U.S. from England in 1986. She has lived in Boston, Los Angeles, and Oregon.
Rosemary studied portrait photography at UCLA before becoming a newborn baby nurse, where she was able to combine her work with her love of photography. In 2006, she started creating glass and ceramic mosaics and for the last ten years has been teaching students in her home studio and at the Artist's Studio Association.
Rosemary is a full time member of the Pacific Artist's Gallery where residents and visitors love to take home her creations to remind them of their time on the coast. | A tremendous amount of stuff was donated and sold in this year's garage sale. Much-appreciated volunteers helped Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with set up and other sale-related tasks. Attendance was slow but steady, and ASA cleared around $1300 for the new roof.
The carousel horse found a wonderful new home, and in addition to the raffle proceeds, the winner gave ASA a substantial donation! Another refurbished item, a statue of Charlie Chaplin, was sold to the Bijou before the sale took place. Look for him if you happen to go there.
The garage sale ended unexpectedly after lunch Saturday due to an accident. While this is disappointing, the classroom received one of the most thorough cleanings it has seen in years!

Thanks to Kathy Cope for her work on the garage sale and the massive amount of cleaning and organizing that required. The following week, Michele Lindsley facilitated the Michael de Meng workshop, then scrubbed the classroom to within an inch of its life. The classroom looks wonderful! | Summer is a PRIME season to offer an art class (or two). The more lead time you provide, the more opportunities for promotion. If you have an idea for an art/craft/maker class, give Tara Choate a signal and she can get you on the schedule.
If you have been thinking about trying your hand at teaching but aren't sure what you should teach, a group is exploring developing "beginners" courses in drawing, watercolor, acrylic, and oil. The idea would be to have a series of four week, half-day classes rotating through the mediums every three months. This would be a good opportunity to earn some extra money. If you are interested... you know what to do.
There is also some interest in creating a children's curriculum of classes. This would need a team approach. If you are interested... again, you know what to do. | |
