A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
Arlon Gilliland is a name, if not a face, that every ASA member probably recognizes.  Arlon has been a member of ASA artists since the mid-90's and has served ASA in more ways than any other single member.  In the early days when he still had his gallery in Taft, he made room for special showings by ASA artists.  Soon after he became a member, he started teaching and for nearly 30 years has taught classes and led the Guided Open Studios nearly every week.  He hand-lettered many signs and posters for Gallery activities, as well as an Agenda poster for each of the monthly meetings.  When there were activities in the Gallery, you would always find Arlon there after others had left, cleaning up the kitchen, wiping down the bathroom and taking out the garbage.  This dedication was "rewarded" by being elected President from which position he led ASA for many years.  When he resigned the Presidency in 2017,  In recognition for all that he had done to keep ASA going through good times and bad, the Board awarded him the back corner of the Gallery as his own display space in perpetuity.  THANK YOU ARLON!

NOTES FROM THE GALLERY

ATTENTION INSTRUCTORS:
Please make use of the table and wall in the SE corner of the Gallery.  This is your chance to display examples of the artwork students will work on in the class as well as anything you'd like to say about the class that wasn't covered in the brochure.
Also please take a moment when the class starts to ask students to watch for paint that accidentally gets on the chairs or floor.  It just takes a moment to wipe it up when it happens rather than wait until it's been tracked around the room and/or has dried.
ATTENTION CARD SELLERS:
If you sell greeting cards in the Gallery, you'll probably agree that the most tedious part is filling the little tags that go on the back.  I've put a stack of pages of those labels in the label drawer.  If you come by the Gallery, pick up a sheet and take it home.  That way you'll be able to fill the labels out at home at your leisure.
And periodically check your cards to make sure they all have labels.  An unlabeled card will become unpayable to the "unknown" artist and a donation to ASA if it sells.
ATTENTION: REHANG
Instructors have been going out on a weekly basis, including this week, regarding rehang requirements.  But I want to particularly emphasize two requirements that are missed by some participants every quarter.
1.  Each piece MJST have both a wall label and the smaller PAA label which needs to be attached to the back.
2.  Artwork meant to be hung on the wall MUST be wired for hanging.  Pictures that have a different form of hanger will NOT BE HUNG.  If you feel that your work has a legitimate alternative hanger, please check with me before the rehang.  Discussions after the fact will not result in disqualified pieces being hung.

Criteria:
Your membership must be current including the $20/year display fee.
1.  Hanging pieces must be wired; sawtooth and other types of hangers will not be accepted.
2.  Each piece needs a display label and a small label for sales in PAA.  Please fill out both types of labels for each piece.
3.  Instructions will be laid out on the table as usual.  A Hold Harmless form must be signed for 2025.
4.  The number of pieces an artist can submit will be based on size and available space:
Three pieces, no larger than 15 inches on a side.
Two pieces, no larger than 30 inches on a side.
One piece no larger than 36 inches on a side.
We have limited space for larger pieces.  It may be that not all submitted pieces will be able to go up in any one show.  Kathy will choose pieces based on first come first served and whichever ones fit best in the space available.
5.  Please check with Kathy regarding the best way to display 3-dimensional artwork.

THERE WILL BE A RECEPTION IN CONJUNCTION WITH PAA ON JANUARY 10TH FROM 5-7 PM.

AND ONE MORE THING

MEMBERS
ASA is looking for someone to manage our website.  Ruth Hugeback put this website together and has managed it for years.  Recently, she was able to pass it on to Char who has also been our class coordinator.  Unfortunately, neither will be continuing in those positions.  If you have some website experience and would like to help us out with this, we would really appreciate that help.
If you are interested in either of these positions, please notify a board member: Steve, Michelle, Cindy, Bonnie, Kathy or Kim.
