Dream Monsters and Found Object Fiends
Have you ever dreamt of a creature that has never existed (as far as you know)? When I was a teenager, I remember dreaming about a huge monster with a film projector head and a giant chicken body…yes…I agree, that is very weird. Now, what he projected from his mechanical cranium was in the future …things destined to be or possibly destined to be, which, since he was a monster, included quite a bit of mayhem and pandemonium (Godzilla type of stuff…buildings toppling etc.). Over the years I’ve had a few such bizarre dreams about crazy monsters, and it seemed to me that anthropomorphizing everyday objects into outlandish beasts might be an intriguing exercise. Thus…Dream Monsters were created. In this workshop, students will bring a variety of found objects to create unusual creatures. Different objects will be used for different parts of the monster’s anatomy. Then using assemblage, sculpting, and painting techniques a new species will be brought to life. To quote Dr. Frankenstein, “IT’S ALIVE!”
