THE HAND OF FATIMA
Ever since I was young, I’ve been drawn to the image of the hand with an eye in the palm.  I can trace my interest to the film, “the Golden Voyage of Sinbad” , filmed in Dynarama, where there was a woman with an eye tattooed on her hand.  After seeing the film, I actually drew eyes on my hands with magic markers for several weeks and if I could have gotten a tattoo, I totally would have.  What is this symbol that I was/am so smitten with?  It is called the Eye of Fatima, also known as the Hand of Miriam or the Chamsah. It is a symbol used to ward off the “evil eye”.   

In this class we are going to make sure no bad mumbo jumbo comes your way by creating a protective eye reliquary using a variety of found objects and the process of assemblage.   Get ready for a bit of civil-eye-zation…I know, I know…maybe we should be building reliquaries to ward off my bad puns.

Expected ability Level: Beginners welcome, no experience necessary.

3 DAY CLASS, ASA members: $325, Non members:$340
Optional 4th day, ASA members $110, Non members $115

Registration cancellations will be accepted until Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 9:00 PM
Cancellation Policy:
If a student cancels their registration, more than
30 days before class begins, a cancellation fee of $5 for ASA will be charged. If a student cancels 30 days or less before the class begins, no refund of will be made.
If one or more classes in a series are missed due to student absence no refund will be made. Make up sessions will not be offered.
ASA will make every effort to conduct classes as scheduled. ASA will attempt to remain open during inclement weather. If necessity requires, ASA will cancel classes and studio activities whenever local school closures occur. If ASA cancels a class for any reason: A full refund of class registration fees will be made.
ASA will make every effort to notify students of class cancellations.
